ICANN Opens Public Comment Period on ICANN Fee Amendment from .MOBI

26 January 2007

On 16 January 2007, ICANN's Board of Directors approved the posting for public comment of an amendment proposed by mTLD to the .MOBI Registry Agreement (see http://www.icann.org/minutes/prelim-report-16jan07.htm). If approved by the ICANN Board, the amendment would change the amount of fees paid by mTLD to ICANN.

A 26 April 2006 letter from Neil Edwards to ICANN noted an apparent disparity between fees in the .MOBI and the proposed (at that time) .TEL agreements (see, http://www.icann.org/correspondence/edwards-to-twomey-29apr06.pdf). ICANN responded to that letter (see, http://www.icann.org/correspondence/twomey-to-edwards-06may06.pdf) and noted that ICANN was willing to discuss amending the .MOBI agreement to incorporate the .TEL fee structure.

.MOBI has suggested language identical to the pricing terms in the .TEL Registry Agreement, except there is a fee cap in the .MOBI language of 75¢ per transaction. The current ICANN fee provisions are in Section 7.2 of the .MOBI Registry Agreement, http://www.icann.org/tlds/agreements/mobi/registry-agmt-mobi-19oct05.htm.

Comments on the proposed amendment can be posted to mobi-tld-amendment@icann.org no later than 5:00 PM PDT, 26 February 2007 and viewed at http://forum.icann.org/lists/mobi-tld-amendment.
