Members of the Committee

The current members of the Executive Committee are Raimundo Beca and Rita Rodin, along with the ICANN President Paul Twomey, Board Chairman Peter Dengate Thrush, and Board Vice-Chairman Roberto Gaetano as ex-officio members.

Background

The Executive Committee of the ICANN Board was established by resolution on 4 November 1999:

"RESOLVED [99.120], that there be, and there hereby is, effective immediately, designated a Committee of the Board to be named the "Executive Committee." The members of the Executive Committee will consist of the Chairman of the Board of the Corporation and of such other Directors (not less than one) as the Board determines from time to time, each of whom will serve at the pleasure of the Board. The members of the Executive Committee, in addition to the Chairman, shall be Michael M. Roberts, Pindar Wong, Alejandro Pisanty, and Hans Kraaijenbrink. Meetings of the Executive Committee may be called at any time by the Chairman or by not fewer than two other members of the Executive Committee.

"FURTHER RESOLVED [99.121], that subject to applicable law and the Bylaws, the Executive Committee will have and may exercise all of the powers of the Board in the oversight of the management of the business and affairs of the Corporation, including, without limitation, financial matters.

"FURTHER RESOLVED [99.122], that the Executive Committee will keep a written record of all actions taken by it and will report such actions to the Board at the regular meeting of the Board next following the meeting of the Executive Committee at which such action is taken."

On 16 November 2000, the Board appointed the Executive Committee for the ensuing year:

"RESOLVED [00.95], that the Executive Committee (a Committee of the Board) designated in resolution 99.120 is hereby continued. The provisions of resolutions 99.120, 99.121, and 99.122 shall continue to apply to the Executive Committee, except that the members of the Executive Committee, in addition to the Chairman, shall be Alejandro Pisanty, Nii Quaynor, Sang-Hyon Kyong, Hans Kraaijenbrink, and Michael M. Roberts."

Michael M. Roberts was succeeded by M. Stuart Lynn as ICANN's President and one of its Directors on 13 March 2001, and therefore ceased to be a member of the Executive Committee on that date. On 10 September 2001, the Board adopted the following resolution making the President a member of the Executive Committee by reason of his or her office:

"Resolved [01.101] that the President of ICANN by reason of his or her office is appointed as a member of the Executive Committee of the Board. The provisions of resolution 00.95 shall otherwise continue to apply."

At the 15 November 2001 meeting, the Board appointed the Executive Committee for the next year:

Resolved [01.109], that there be continued the Executive Committee of the Board. Subject to applicable law and the Bylaws, the Executive Committee will have and may exercise all of the powers of the Board in the oversight of the management of the business and affairs of the Corporation, including, without limitation, financial matters.

Further resolved [01.110], that meetings of the Executive Committee may be called at any time by the Chairman or by not fewer than two other members of the Executive Committee. The Executive Committee will notify the full Board of the agenda at least 24 hours in advance of a meeting, unless impracticable; will keep a written record of all actions taken by it; and will report such actions to the Board as soon as practicable following the meeting of the Executive Committee at which such action is taken.

Resolved [01.111], that the members of the Executive Committee, in addition to the Chairman, shall be Alejandro Pisanty, Nii Quaynor, Sang-Hyon Kyong, Hans Kraaijenbrink, and the President of ICANN.

On 27 March 2003, Paul Twomey succeeded M. Stuart Lynn as ICANN's President and became a member of the Executive Committee.
